Tackling risk by changing behaviour.

چکیده
The need to ensure quality in its widest sense and, within this, to avoid risk or to manage the consequences of risk means that staff must be able to change or maintain their behaviour to produce safe procedures and good outcomes. This inevitably entails perceiving potential risks, devising and following systems which eliminate or minimise these risks, and devising approaches which reduce the effects of accidents when they do occur. How people's behaviour may be changed towards these goals depends to some extent on the types of changes that are required. At their most general these will be the same for risk management as those in any other sphere of organisational life. In his book on chaos theory and its use within organisations Stacey categorised change according to how easy it is to predict its cause and effects.' This can be usefully applied to the risks involved, resulting in three categories, as follows.

Nudges are interventions that aim to change people's behaviour through changing the environment in which they choose rather than appealing to their reasoning. Nudges have been proposed as of possible use in relation to health-related behaviour. A number of social cognition models identify risk appraisal as a primary motivator of behaviour suggesting that changing risk appraisals for STIs may be an effective strategy in motivating prote...

There is a growin...
متن کاملTackling uncertainty in safety risk analysis in process systems: The case of gas pressure reduction stations
Industrial plants are subjected to very dangerous events. Therefore, it is very essential to carry out an efficient risk and safety analysis. In classical applications, risk analysis treats event probabilities as certain data, while there is much penurious knowledge and uncertainty in generic failure data that will lead to biased and inconsistent alternative estimates. Then, in order to achieve...
